EDET 101 – Intro to Line Worker (2)
Placement/Work Keys testing, career working environment and risk review, injury waiver, personal protective equipment, general identification of materials and equipment, prep for Edison Test, host Edison Test, basic pole climbing training, 45 foot pole climbing qualification, claustrophobia test, strength test, CDL requirement, and random drug testing.
EDET 102 – Fundamentals of Electric Power Distribution (2)
Working safely on power lines, electric power systems overview, line materials and tool identification, basic pole construction, basic rigging, working with conductors and cables, and circuit protection.
EDET 103 – Heavy Equipment Familiarization (2)
Bucket truck, derrick truck, digging hole, installing pole, and hands on use of pole puller.
EDET 120 – Advanced Pole Working (2)
Awareness in an electrical environment, personal protective equipment, crew roles and responsibilities, pole construction and work, stringing wire, and hanging and connecting overhead transformer.
EDET 121 – Safety for Electric Workers (2)
Introduces students to the necessary skills to safely work on electric distribution systems. Some major areas of studies include: applying safe grounding practices, correctly using personal protective equipment, safely setting up traffic control work zone, pole top rescue, aerial life rescue, and confined space rescue. Upon successful completion of this course, a 10-hour OSHA card will be earned.
EDET 130 – Underground Line Maintenance (2)
Teaches practical underground distribution maintenance techniques while emphasizing the safe use of tools and equipment. Students will learn to analyze and perform work on underground distribution lines using industry prints and work requests, conduct comprehensive tailboard/job briefing and safely direct a crew, and live line tools, equipment and techniques for safely installing and repairing underground cables and equipment.
EDET 131 – Substation Basics (2)
Safety and security considerations, visit substation, and identification of components.
EDET 140 – Overhead Line Maintenance (2)
Operating overhead switches, using insulated platform, hot line shields, troubleshooting outages, and damaged pole repair.
EDET 180 – Building Better Work Relationships (2)
Familiarizes students with different personality types using DISC technique, while providing practical tools to handle interpersonal issues in team and business environment.
EDET 201 – Fundamentals of Electricity I (2)
Ohm’s Law, magnetism, DC series and parallel circuits, measuring instruments, wire tables and conductor size, sources of electricity, and AC series and parallel circuits.
EDET 202 – Fundamentals of Electricity II (2)
Inductors and capacitors, three-phase circuits, 1P transformers, 3P transformers, DC generators and 1P motors, and 3P alternators and motors
EDET 280 – Diagnostic Project (2)
EDET 285 – Repair Project (2)
EDET 292 – Internship I (2)
